I should be packing & instead I’m Tumblring. I’ve uploaded a mega-batch of images, quotes, stories to hopefully keep you entertained while I am away. On the plane to South Korea tomorrow, to a little traditional Korean guesthouse in Seoul. Bim bim bap, bulgogi and kim chi, here I come. Then to Milan for a couple of days, a classical concert at La Scala. Then to Malta to visit an...

Truthful Tuesday
Here’s another snippet from my degenerate hospitality non-career. idol-hands asked for another story, so that’s where you can lay the blame. I did the classic Aussie living and working, with my boyfriend, in an English pub in Weybridge on the outskirts of London. It was run by Dave and his wife, who’s name I have erased from my memory. She had thick, pale, yellowy skin like a...

Hold me now, I might faint. Booked into Dinner by Heston http://www.dinnerbyheston.com All the dishes on the menu are at the ancient end of cooking. Nothing within the timeframe of MadMeals, not that I care. Any Heston Blumenthal for me. Can’t wait for late November 10pm on a Wednesday night. 10pm, is that 3rd sitting?

– In Melbourne, there’s Ricetable in South Yarra. Fun for the event, though no Malay boys wearing songkoks, and I think there’s better Indonesian food elsewhere in Melb. I’m more into Nasi Padang so don’t be put off trying it. Makanan Java is a bit too halus for my kasar...

My personal take on OccupyMelbourne
Another non-MadMeals post, sorry. I’m obviously not in Swanston St, Melbourne demonstrating. I’m resting instead. I’m quite surprised by the police reaction given I’ve been involved in peaceful marches before here and it’s all been happy banter (plus interminable speeches). But then they weren’t sit ins. I have it pretty good (very good in fact) & Melb...

My last post reminded me of the other odd hospitality place I worked late 80’s. I used to work for a crime boss and I didn’t know until I had already left and saw his head on the nightly news. He was convicted of drug and prostitution rackets. I worked in a deli / café he owned in St. Kilda. In retrospect it must have been for money laundering because it wasn’t a vibrant...

16 oz. can chicken soup milk 1 avocado 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon cream salt, pepper Choose a nice ripe avocado. Remove flesh from inside, push through fine sieve; mix in lemon juice immediately so that the avocado keeps its fresh colour.
